I wish all of you a great summer and good luck next year in 7th grade.  For science next year you will become Life Scientists looking into the study of all the living things. Welcome back !!  I hope all of you had a great Memorial Day Weekend celebrating some of our heroes who have gone before us.  This will be our last science day for this school year.  Thursday you can view South Pointes Virtual Graduation or make sure you have done all the things you need to do for 7th grade.  Please check out our template on google for this week.  Today we will wrap up our study with Chapter #16 Interactions of Living things.  In this study you will look at how Earth Science and Life Science work together.  Follow the lesson for our block time today.  There is no graded assignment today or this week. Week #5 Distance Learning - Agents of Erosion and Deposition

6th Grade Earth Science Agenda and Homework - Monday, May 18th.
 
Good Morning Students !!  Welcome back to week #5 of our distance learning.  This week we will be looking at the different agents of Erosion and Deposition.  On Tuesday we will look at Shoreline and Wind Erosion and Deposition.  On Thursday we will look at Ice and Mass Movement (gravity) Erosion and Deposition.  Our focus will be Chapter #10 in your Earth Science Book.  You will have two graded assignments for points one tomorrow and one on Thursday.  Thank you for using google classroom to send your work to me. On Wednesday this week is your textbook return day for 6th grade.  In the morning is textbook return for last names that begin with A To M and the afternoon is for last names that begin with N to Z.  Please do not miss your time it is very important we get the textbooks back so we can have them ready for next year.  On Friday of this week your Lockdown Diary is due for extra credit.  If you chose to do this please send it to me through google classroom by May 22nd.  I can not count this for extra credit points unless you send it to me through google.  Well this is our last full week of school.  I thank you for all your time and hard work these past five weeks. Good Morning Earth Scientists !!  This week we will focus on the different types of Erosion in Chapter #10.  Today we will look at Shoreline and Wind Erosion.  I need you to look at today's template and complete the activities I have listed.  You have reading to do in sections one and two.  Next I need you to look at the Brain Pops and Youtubes I have listed for your block schedule time today.  Your activity for points is to look at a short video on shoreline erosion and then answer a google question.  Submit your answer through google classroom for 5 points.  Remember this weeks two assignments are due next Monday.  Tomorrow your textbooks are due back at school.  I have listed the times for you and your family to drive up to school to drop off your textbooks and other material.  This is very important !!  We need all these school supplies back for next year.  I hope you are all doing well as we finish our last full week of school.  Keep up the good work and finish strong !!  You have almost made it to summer vacation. Good Morning !!  I hope all of you were able to return your books and clean out your lockers yesterday.  Tomorrow is a makeup day for book returns if you missed yesterday.  Check the schedule I posted for times on Friday. Today we will continue are study of Erosion by looking at a Bill Nye. In google classroom I have posted 7 questions for you to answer while watching this youtube. I then need you to turn in your answers through google. I also need you to look at today's template and watch the things I have listed. This will be your block time for today.  You should not need your textbook but if for some reason you do I posted the link for you.  Remember, this weeks two assignments are due by Monday. Week #4 Distance Learning - Weathering and Soil Formation

6th Grade Earth Science Agenda and Homework - Tuesday, May 12th.
 
Welcome back to Tuesday !!  Today is a science day and we will be looking at Weathering and Soil Formation. We will be looking at sections 1 and 2 in Chapter #9. In section one you will be learning about the two types of weathering - mechanical and chemical.  In section two you will be learning about rates of weathering and how surface areas and differential weathering affects rocks and soil.  I need you to read these two parts and then watch the Brain Pops and You tubes I have listed on this weeks template. Good Morning Panthers !!  I hope you had a great weekend celebrating our Mother's.  Welcome back to week #4 of our distance learning.  This week we will be focusing on Earth's Weathering and Soil Formation.  In Chapter #9 you will be reading about this topic, looking at some Brain Pops, and watching some youtube videos on this subject.  On Tuesday and Thursday you will have one graded assignment for points that will need to be turned in by next Monday. Week #3 Distance Learning - Volcanoes

Hi Everyone !!  Welcome back today as we study Volcanoes.  Today during our block schedule time you will be looking at Chapter #8 on Volcanoes.  During your time you will be studying about why volcanoes form, the three types of volcanoes, and the effects of volcanic eruptions.  Volcanoes are also a result of our moving tectonic plates.  During your time today I need you to do the reading, look at the Brain Pops, watch the youtube videos that were shown on our template for this week.  Your assignment for points is titled Types of Volcanoes which you will do and send to me through our google classroom.  I did add some grades to Aires so check out your points so far.  Again,  thank you for your effort and hard work during this stay at home time.  You are all doing great !!  I miss you but I do think about you each day.  Have a great study on volcanoes.  Love,  Mr. Woodward

Good Morning Earth Scientists !!  I hope you enjoyed your weekend and our ready for week number three of distance learning.  This week our theme is Earthquakes and Volcanoes.  As you studied last week the Theory of Plate Tectonics you learned that earthquakes and volcanoes are a result of our moving plates. You will be studying the Deforming of Earth's Crust and California Geology. This is an interesting study looking at how plate tectonics has changed our state over time.  I need you to do the reading, look at the Brain Pops, check out the youtube videos, and then complete today's activity for points.   Make sure to hit submit or turn in when you are done with the graded work.  I am almost done with last weeks two graded assignments.  You have all done a great job and I thank you for your effort. Good Morning to all my Earth Scientists !!  Welcome to our science day for this week.  Our block today begins at 11:05 am.  Today we will be looking at Chapter #6 Plate Tectonics section #'s one and two titled Earth' Structure and The Theory of Plate Tectonics.  You will see on the template for today I need you to do the reading, look at the Brain Pops, and You tube videos that go with these two sections. You will be learning how Earth is composed of several layers. The continents are part of the uppermost layer, and they move slowly around Earth's surface.  Then you will learn how tectonic plates the size of continents and oceans move at rates of a few centimeters per year in response to movements in the mantle.  I recorded a Zoom message for you as you begin our study for this week.  Finally, you will find today's assignment for points that you will need to send me through google.  The two assignments for this week are due on Monday.  I will be posting last weeks two grades this week.  Thank you for sending me your work !!  Enjoy your study on Plate Tectonics.  This is one of my favorite Earth topics.  Enjoy !!  Thinking and missing all of you !!  Mr. Woodward

Good Morning to my Earth Scientists !!  Congratulations you have just finished week one of our distance learning.  This week we looked at Earth's Material and Energy Resources.  For each subject you had one assignment to turn in.  Friday's are a work day for you to finish up any of these activities from this week.  Remember I need the two graded assignments turned in by Monday (April 27th).  I will then begin entering your points on student/parent portal for this weeks two grades.  If you are talking to any of our core mates please make sure they are on line doing their distance learning.  I hope this first week has gone well for you.  If you are stuck on any of my directions then be creative on that assignment.  I love your creativity and I will not take away any points.  All I ask is for you to try your best and submit the necessary work. Good morning Panthers !!  Happy Earth Day week again.  I hope you are all doing well and navigating through your first week of distance learning.  Today is a science day and our block schedule begins at 11:05 am.  Today you will be reading about Energy Resources Chapter #5 in your Earth Science Book.  During our block today you need to read through Chapter #5.  Then I need you to look at any of the Brain Pops I have listed and youtube videos I shared.  After reading and looking over these your assignment is to complete a Creative Earth Day Outreach.  Follow the directions (rubric) that I posted and then send it to me though google classroom.  Remember everything you do is through this unless you take a picture of it and send it to my e mail.  This weeks two assignments are due by Monday of next week. Good Morning !!  Happy Earth Day Week !!  Today is not a Science class day.  Remember, our days are Tuesday and Thursday mornings beginning at 11:05.  Yesterday you should have completed Chapter #4 on Material Resources.  You should have read through the Chapter, looked at the Brian Pops I shared, and looked at the Youtubes I shared for yesterday.  Your graded assignment was creating some google slides. Good morning to all my Earth Scientists !!  Welcome back from Spring Break and phase 1 of our shut down.  This week we are entering phase 2 of our long distance learning together.  I will now be using Google classroom and the homework website to connect us during these last few weeks of school.  You will be submitting your work through Google classroom now that we are apart.  I hope you and your family are doing well.  I miss you !!!  but I am thankful we have technology to connect us during these times.  So lets begin week one.
 
For this first week are theme will be Earth's Material and Energy Resources.  South Pointe has put together a schedule for each week.  For Science are days are Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 11:05.  For today we will be doing Chapter #4 on Material Resources.  On Google classroom I have listed several things I need you to watch and do for our block schedule today.  There are some Brain Pops and Youtubes  I would like you watch.  I need you to read through Chapter #4 and then do the graded assignment to put on line.  Each week there will be two graded assignments.  One for Tuesday's lesson and one for Thursday's lesson.  Each week the two assignments will be due on the following Monday.  I will then post those two grades on student/parent portal as I always have.  Today's assignment will be worth 20 points as you will see on Google classroom.  Each week I will also record a message on Zoom for you to listen to.  We will finish this year with one more extra credit.  On Google classroom it is titled My Lockdown Diary.  You will put this together each day over our next 5 weeks and then turn it in on May 22nd.  I will then add these extra credit points to your final grade.  Like always extra credit is optional.  Well I hope you enjoy our lesson on Material Resources today.  Have a great day !!   Love, Mr. Woodward

Welcome back from Science Camp Week !!   I hope everyone had a good time last week.  Little did we know that we were coming back to a shut down for five weeks.  We as a staff have met and the district is putting together a  website for you to follow during these next four weeks before spring break. In a couple of days you will refer to the 6th Grade South Pointe Middle School Instructional Resources website.  On this site you will follow the instructions for your Earth Science Curriculum over these next four weeks. If you cant get on all the stuff than just do what you can complete.  This will be my last post on this website until we return.  You do not need to e mail me just follow the instructions the best you can.  We are traveling through a time that we have not experienced before so just be patient and do your best.  I love the quote that Dr Arzola posted : Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, mountains and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters and teach some of us more that we can ever imagine.  Take time to check out our Earth and enjoy what a beautiful planet we live on during this down time.  I will see you back here on April 20th to begin our study of Plate Tectonics.  Be safe !!   Mr. Woodward/Earth Science

3. We are off to science camp tomorrow.  Tonight you should do any last minute packing for the trip.  You are reporting to the MPR room for camp.  You should be in the MPR by 8:15 am.  Non campers you  have regular school times this week.

2. You need to complete your Earth Science Quilt.  I will be collecting them for a grade on March 17th unless you turned it in today.

Get ready tonight for our first Science Test tomorrow.  We have covered Chapter #1 these first three weeks of school.  We looked at Thinking Like a Scientist, Scientific Methods, and Safety in Science.  Tomorrow we will take Test #1 on these three areas.  In Mr Woodward's class I allow you to make a Study Buddy for each test.  You may use one sheet of paper and pack both sides with any notes you think might be helpful for you on tomorrow's test. You may then use this on the test. This is not required so it is optional. 
2. Due tomorrow - on test days I grade your Science Journal for organization.  Today I went over my journal and showed you the correct order.  Each page should be numbered and in order for an A+ grade.  Our first journal ended with ten pages inside your folder or binder.  Each page is worth 2 points so tomorrows first journal is worth 20 points.  Thank you for being organized this year !!
