In order for the South Pointe staff to provide an educational program which benefits students, consistent attendance is essential. Illness or medical appointments are legitimate reasons for school absence. If it is necessary for the student to be absent from school, a parent or guardian must call the attendance office at (909) 595-8171 and then press 2. Please leave a message with the following information: student's name, grade level, reason for absence, and length of time of the absence.
If the student is likely to be out of school for an extended period of time, it is recommended that work is requested through the main office. The teachers will need 24 hours notice when assignments are requested and work requests are honored only if the student will be absent for 3 days or more.
Punctuality is an important part of being a responsible student. Late students are a disruption to the classroom and make it more difficult for all students to learn. For these reasons, punctuality will be mandatory in every class. If a student is tardy to school or to the classroom, the following tardy policy will be enforced by all South Pointe staff:
First Tardy....... no penalty (1 per semester per class) teacher warning
Second Tardy.. parent contact by teacher/detention assigned
Third Tardy...... parent contact/detention/S.S.R.A. referral
Fourth Tardy…. parent contact/detention/S.S.R.A. referral/begin
School Attendance Review Team file/letter to parents from assistant principal
Fifth Tardy...... parent contact/detention/S.S.R.A. referral/continue S.A.R.T. file/
letter to parents setting a S.A.R.T. conference date
