The purpose of electives is to allow all students to discover and pursue their passions and talents while developing skills in leadership, empathy and teamwork helping them to grow as global humans and prepare for their future.
6th Grade Electives
Elective Pallet-Students will be enrolled in each elective for one-quarter
- Introduction to Musical Theater: Learn the basics of pantomime, vocal production, dance, movement, stage presence, and character development. Will perform skits for other classes produce commercials for KSPS. Will also learn the basics of singing and movement.
- Introduction to Spanish: ¡Hola! Sixth grade Spanish is fun class where through music, games and activities we learn to speak 2 languages. By the end of the 9 weeks you will be able to tell people about yourself, ask and answer questions on various topics and be familiar with Spanish. ¡Olé!! This will be your clase favorita.
- Introduction to STEAM: This class introduces students to the integration of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math in a fun and innovative way. We begin with the nature of technology such as learning about digital citizenship, google apps commonly used in the classroom, coding, robotics, and creating 3D images. Students will also be introduced to the world of information and communication through design by creating storyboards, animations, and trailers.
- Introduction to Art: This class is an introduction to the basic fundamentals of art. The purpose is to provide the students with a positive first time experience in an art room setting. The students will be given projects that introduce them to a variety of mediums while having an emphasis on drawing. Students will learn how to use observation as a key essential tool to creating their best artwork.
Year Long Electives
6th Grade Band- Students will be enrolled for a full year: NO EXPERIENCE IN MUSIC IS NECESSARY TO JOIN BAND! We can teach you. This is a FUN and in-depth approach to instrumental music making. Students will be able to choose any one of the 14 instruments from the brass, woodwind or percussion families. (This includes flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba or percussion/drums.) Students will learn how to read and write music, as well as perform and express musical thoughts through their chosen instrument. Students will work in small groups with professional players to help to promote their accelerated proficiency and will perform in a large ensemble with their peers. This ensemble performs at several concerts throughout the year and takes a trip off campus to a music festival in the spring. Students always have a great time in the SPMS band! Panther Choir: Introduction to singing including vocal production, note and rhythm reading, and stage presence. A variety of music genres including musical theater, pop and concert choir. Will sing at a Disneyland Festival, SCVA Festival, Thriller Concert, and Spring Concert. No audition necessary. Costume: T-shirt and jeans
