4. Today we will be working on temperature and reading thermometers.

3. Lesson on graduated cylinders, journal pages 7 and 7a.

4. Complete the lab on the bottom of page 10 front. Turn in page 10 and we will continue the lab tomorrow.

5. Continue working on page 7 a, both sides.

1. Have out page 7 and a blue, black, or green pen. Have your journal to use as a cover sheet.

2. Turn in page 7 when I call your name to pick up page 8.

Take the quick quiz on reading a meniscus. Short answers are fine.

3. Turn in page 9 and find your page 10. Begin the top of page 10 while everyone finishes the QQ.

4. You have a wet LAB: Displacement and a dry LAB: Reading a Meniscus.

5. No more than 4 people at a lab at a time. Follow the directions given.

6. Turn in page 10 when you have completed both labs, and pick up page 11.

HOMEWORK: Page 11 is identifying observations and inferences.  Permission slip for the planetarium field trip, $4 cash, and lunch request form are due no later than Sept. 22.

September 11, 2017 - Monday -  911 Memorial Recognition - A,B,C,D,E,F

Write in your agenda, in ink. Leave your agenda out but closed. Any make-ups tests?

1. Have out page 1 and a red pen. We will correct page 1 front. Score your paper. Turn in page 1.

2. Remove chapter one papers from your journal. Take them home for your parents to see. You will not need chapter one pages again.

3. Begin Chapter Two- Tools of Earth Scientists. Review the Chart on Holt page 46.

4.  Explain the mapping extra credit which will be completed on your own paper.  (Holt page 43)

5. Activity: Non-standard measurement, page 2 back and the top (only) of 2 front.

6. Lesson on reading a metric ruler.

7. Activity: Non-standard measurement with your lab partners. Write everyone's name on the lined paper.  On the front side use the unusual object found in your lab station box. On the back side use the small post-it notes. Make sure you label who did measured each item. Turn in the activity paper.

8. You may begin your homework or work on the extra credit map.

HOMEWORK: Measuring in centimeters, both sides, (journal page 3) is due tomorrow. Extra credit - Map to the band room is due Wednesday.

 

September 12, 2017 - Tuesday B, C, D, E, F, A

1. Pass back pages 1 and 2. DO NOT add them to the brads. Put them in the pocket of your journal.

2. Correct page 3 and turn it in. Pick up page 4, BrainPop.

3. You will be completing the BrainPop Quiz on Metrics, only today. DO not do the extra credit. Do not do the back of the assignment. Turn in page 4 when completed with the front. You may work alone or with your lab group.

4. Get a laptop and work on the computer activity for today, page 4 front. Then use the laptop to work on page 1 back. Remember at least 5 of the vocabulary words must be from Holt. Make sure you site the secondary resource that you used.

HOMEWORK: Page 1 back is due tomorrow.  Map to the band room EC is due tomorrow if you choose to complete it.

 

September 13, 2017 - Wednesday C, D, E, F, A, B

2. Turn in page 1 and the extra credit (map to the band room) if you chose to complete it.

3. Have out page 2 for today's lab. You will be using the metric rulers and the objects in the lab table boxes to complete the lab.

4. When you have completed the lab, turn in page 2 and pick up page 5.

5. Write your complete heading on page 5, Directed Reading 2 - 1. You will be working on this assignment by yourself.

HOMEWORK: Page 5, both sides, is due Friday. This is a by yourself activity. Remember all the answers are in the book, in order. Permission slip for the planetarium field trip, 4 $ cash, and lunch request form are due Sept. 22.

  

September 14, 2017 - Thursday - Late Start    D, E, F, A, B, C

Write in your agenda, in ink.

1. Pass back pages 1 and 2. Add pages 1 - 4 to the brads. Show me your journal when you have put the pages in. Show me your agenda for this week.  If you followed the directions you may pick up page 6.

2. Lesson on finding volume of a rectangular shaped object.

3. Explain how to use the metric ruler to complete page 6 back. You will be finding distances from one place on the map to the next. Then you will be converting cm to mm. The last step is to use the scale on the map to find the actual distance in km. Don't forget on the last item to add the two measurements.

4. Volume Lab: Page 6 front. Choose 5 items from the basket and a metric ruler to find the volume. Feel free to borrow my calculators if you do not already have one. When you have finished page 6, (both sides) turn it in to the correct period box.

5. Work on page 4 front if you want to complete the extra credit.  You may complete this alone or with a lab partner. Work on page page 4 back which is the mandatory homework. Again, feel free to use a calculator.

6. If you have finished page 4 you may work on page 5 which you got yesterday and is due tomorrow.

7. If you are done with everything you may read an AR book or do other homework.

HOMEWORK: Page 4 back (if you did not finish in class) is due tomorrow. Page 4 front extra credit is due tomorrow. Page 5, both sides, is due tomorrow. You got this paper yesterday. You will turn in your journal tomorrow after correcting pages 4 and 5. Permission slip for the planetarium field trip, $4 cash, and lunch request form are due no later than Sept. 22.

4. Pick up page 8. You will be watching a Bill Nye Video Lesson on Measurement. You must write 10 phrases from information you learned on the video. Then write a 5 to 7 sentence paragraph about what you learned using your notes.

5. Explain the extra credit on 8 back, Melting Chocolate At Home Lab. 

HOMEWORK: Page 8 front if you did not finish is due Monday.  Page 8 back (optional extra credit) is due Monday.  Permission slip for the planetarium field trip, $4 cash, and lunch request form are due no later than Sept. 22.

Write in your agenda, in ink. Leave your agenda out but closed.

1. Add pages 16 - 19 to the brads. Bring me page 16 or 19 if you chose to not complete the assignment.

2. Turn your journal sideways for the quick quiz. Have out a blue pen, black pen, or green pen. I will score the agenda while you take the quick quiz.

3. Turn in the quick quiz and pick up the answer key to page 19. (blue paper) Correct page 19 by writing the correct answer , in red, on your paper. Give yourself a 10/10 if you completed the assignment on time and corrected the wrong answers in red pen.

4. When you have finished correcting page 19 return the blue paper to the wire basket. Turn in your journal and pick up page 20.

5. Page 20 is today's inquiry lab. You may complete the lab by yourself or with others. Write your hypothesis and complete the data table. We will finish the lab tomorrow when everyone has finished the data table.

6. If you finish the front of page 20 you may work together on page 20 back.

7. if you finish all of my work you may work on other homework, read a book, or take a nap. (Don't snore)

1. We will begin by completing the lab from yesterday. (Page 20 front)

2. Go over the answers from 20 back. What did the student's do wrong in the lab?

3. Turn in page 20 and pick up page 21.

4. Explain the Study Buddy directions from page 21 back.

5. Explain today's assignment. 1 - 7, is mandatory. 1a to 7a, is optional. Make sure you do not repeat answers.

HOMEWORK: 21 front is due tomorrow. Extra credit is also on page 21 front. Side one of the study buddy is due tomorrow. The requirements are on the back of page 21. Side 2 is due on Friday.  Chapter 1 test is Friday.

4. Work on your Study Buddy, the back side.

HOMEWORK: The back side of your Study Buddy is due tomorrow. Turn in your journal tomorrow. Have a number 2 pencil for the test tomorrow. You will be using a scantron for the chapter 1 test. Chapter 1 test is tomorrow.

1. Today you will be completing an activity that requires you to figure out what is wrong in a crazy lab. Wait until all the slides have been reviewed before starting.

2. Review and discuss each of the 36 areas.

3. With your lab group, circle in red, or highlight in yellow the 10 areas you are choosing to complete. On the back side of the paper write the areas you chose and explain what is wrong.

HOMEWORK: Finish the lab worksheet if you did not finish in class. Page 17 is due tomorrow.

5. Page 16 may be completed together in your lab groups. Page 19 is to be completed by yourself.

1. Pass back papers. Put pages 1 - 5 in the 3 bad folder. This is our first journal.

2. Agenda check. (Remember this counts as a quiz grade. All 4 class for 5 days written in ink.)

3. Go over the solar eclipse directions for today.

4. Video on the solar eclipse.

5. Correct page 4, both sides. Make sure you write the correct answer in red on your paper. If you missed 0 to 8 questions give yourself a 10/10

6. Turn in your journal in the 3 brad folder or stapled together.

HOMEWORK: Write a paragraph (5 - 7 sentences) about why we have a solar eclipse. Make sure it is in your own words. Make sure you put your complete heading on your paper.

 

August 22, 2017 - Tuesday B, C, D, E, F, A 

We begin our rotating schedule today.

Write in your agenda, in ink.

1. Pass back the journals you turned in yesterday. The grades have been recorded.

2. Turn in your paragraph about solar eclipses. This is page 7. You were supposed to write 5 to 7 sentences about the solar eclipse. Make sure your heading is on the paper.

3. Pick up page 6 for today's laptop activity. I will give the directions as to how to complete the BrainPop assignment. You may work with lab partners if you choose to do so.

4. Watch the BrainPop on eclipse. Answer the questions after you have seen the movie. Then go to FYI and choose one topic to write about. Then on the back of your paper you will choose one of the scientists given. Write 6 facts about the scientist. These do not need to be in complete sentences.

5. Before leaving the class you must turn in page 6, finished or not. If you were working the entire period you earn 10/10.

HOMEWORK: Answer the three eclipse questions in complete sentence answers. Tomorrow will be the first content quiz. The exact questions for tomorrows quiz are on page 4 back, on the bottom. You will take the quiz in blue, black, or green ink.

 

August 23, 2017 - Wednesday C, D, E, F, A, B

Write in your agenda, in ink.

1.  Write page 8 on your eclipse paper. Make sure you have your name and an 8 on the paper. Turn in the eclipse paper to the correct colored basket.

2. Have everything off your desk except a closed journal and a blue, black, or green pen. Take the 1 - 1 quick quiz in blue, black, or green ink. Turn the paper in to the correct colored basket. Pick up page 9 and put your heading on it.

3. Pass back pages 6 and 7. Add them to your brads. Go over the scoring for pages 6 and 7. Explain the extra credit on page 6 that is due on Friday.

4. Complete page 9 front together. Turn in page 9.

5. Pick up page 10. Page 10 is a lesson on the Scientific Method. You will take notes while I instruct the lesson.

6. Begin the homework as time allows.

HOMEWORK: Page 10 back is due tomorrow. If you complete all of page 6 by Friday it is 5 extra credit points.

  

August 24, 2017 - Thursday - Late Start    D, E, F, A, B, C

Write in your agenda, in ink.

1. Pass back page 8. Add page 8 to the brads. Pass back page 9.

2. Have pages 9 and 10 on your desk. Have a red pen to correct. Anyone not complete page 10 back?

2. Correct page 10, in red. If you followed the directions and corrected your errors, give yourself a 10/10. 

3. Correct page 9 front. If you corrected the paper in red pen, give yourself a 10/10. 

4. Page 9 back is today's quick lab, Penny Drop. We will be using the scientific method to complete the lab.

5. When you lab group has finished the la, turn in page 9 and get a science book from the side of the room.

6. I will pass out page 12 which is the Directed Reading paper. Follow the directions on the paper. Remember, all the answers are in the book, in order. Begin the homework with what time is still available.

HOMEWORK: Page 12 front is due tomorrow. You may work ahead if you want to. Complete all of page 6 if you want to earn 5 extra credit points. Page 6 is due tomorrow. Make sure your journal is here tomorrow as you will be turning it in.

 

 

August 25, 2017 - Friday- E, F, A, B, C, D

1. Pass back pages 9 and 10. Add them to your journal. Turn in your journal. I will give extra credit to anyone who completed page 6.

2. Have page 12 (Directed Reading) on your desk so I can check that you completed the front.

3. Pick up page 11 which is today's lab, Black Box. The lab boxes are on the side of the room. You may work with whomever you want to from this period.

4. If you finish the lab you may work on page 12 back.

HOMEWORK: Page 12 back is due Monday. Agenda check on Monday. *Remember this counts as a quiz grade.) Make sure you wrote in each space for all 4 classes all five days, in ink. 11 front (Black Box lab) is due Monday. Page 11 back (Scientific Method poster) is extra credit due Monday.

Minimum Day Schedule- A busy but fun beginning. We are not rotating this week to give everyone time to get used to their schedule.

1. Introduce myself.

2. Go over the 6th grade science letter. Pass out the signature letter.

3. Explain the homework, "Ice Breaker Questions".

HOMEWORK: Icebreaker questions # 1 - 18 is due tomorrow. Page 1 top front side only. Make sure you are writing in blue pen, black pen, or a pencil as stated on the Science letter that went home today.  Parent signatures are due Wednesday.

Write in your agenda, in ink. New seats today.

1. Have out your ice breaker paper to be scored for completion. Pass out chance tickets to anyone that brought in the signature paper early.

2. Share the Ice Breakers questions in your group. Score points for completing the assignment. Today I will score points by stamping your paper.

3. PPT with the Video of our science teachers.

4. Fail or Succeed activity. Remember to not put your name on the paper. Talk to your parents about this fun activity and what you learned.

5. "What Is Science?" Lesson and worksheet.

6. BrainPop Earth. You may work on your homework or watch the BrainPop.

7. Explain the extra credit on the back of the "What is Science?" paper.

HOMEWORK: Parent signatures are due tomorrow. What is Science? worksheet is due tomorrow.(front side is due tomorrow. The back side is extra credit due Thursday.) Bring in an item on Friday for the lab. (Follow the directions on your paper.) Make sure you are writing in blue pen, black pen, or a pencil as stated on the Science letter that went home  yesterday. 

 

August 16, 2017 - Wednesday 

We are not rotating this week to give everyone time to get used to their schedule. Please remember NO FRANGRANCES of any kind in my classroom. It is a health and safety issue.

Write in your agenda, in ink. Seating Charts will be filled in today. Any Late Work?

1. Turn in the "What is Science?" worksheet. I will score it and give it back to you right away. If you choose to complete the extra credit on the back, it is due tomorrow.

2. Get textbooks from the side of the room and complete the back side of the icebreakers paper with your lab group. We will go over all the answers and score the paper.

3. Turn in the icebreaker paper when both sides are complete. You may work with your lab group. Do not turn in the paper until everyone is done. Pick up the filmstrip paper.

4. Explain the filmstrip paper and the extra credit.

5. Review the directions for the lab on Friday.

HOMEWORK: Finish the filmstrip paper by tomorrow. Have a 3 brad folder by Monday. Bring in an item for Friday's lab. (Make sure you follow all the directions.)

E Period had a special assembly today so they do not have to do the filmstrip paper.

  

August 17, 2017 - Thursday - Regular day schedule.

Back to School Night is tonight. Remember this evening is for parents. Begin in the Gym and then to classes at 6:00.

1. Share the filmstrip paper with your lab group.

2. Famous Scientist PPT lesson and worksheet which is on the back of the filmstrip paper.

3. Pass out Directed Reading 1 - 1. Complete the front side by tomorrow.

HOMEWORK: Complete the front side of the Directed Reading (page 4) by tomorrow. The back side is do Monday. You may go ahead and do the back early if you want to do so. Have a 3 brad folder by Monday. Bring in an item for tomorrow's lab.

1. Check homework Directed Reading, front side.

2. Lab: A Little Bit Of Science. Complete the lab.

3. 5 back is extra credit if you choose to complete it.

4. Work on side 2 of the Directed Reading if you are not already done.

HOMEWORK: Have a 3 brad folder by Monday. Complete the Directed Reading assignment, Page 4, back side by Monday. Extra Credit is due Monday. Agenda Quiz Monday. Make sure every space is completely and correctly filled out, in ink. Page 5 front will be turned in on Monday. Page 5 back is extra credit.
